How Can I Tell if I’m a Good Onlne Poker Player?

I’ve been playing onlne poker on both PokerStars and Fulltiltpoker. I try to be aggressive at times (not stupidly aggressive) and feel like im making the right moves. But every single time some stupid Play Money player who doesn’t care will just go All-In all the time. Eventually I’ll get a good hand (A,K) and I’ll call. He’ll only have like 8,6 and then somehow win. I feel like I’m playing everything right and folding bad hands but everyone else is just going All-In and going crazy. Note: THIS IS ON THE PLAY MONEY TABLES! It’s starting to piss me off everytime I lose when I feal like I made a good decision. BUT, when I look at the real tables people actually fold and play smart. Every time I try to steal the Blinds at Play Money tables they always raise with crappy hands. Tell me what you guys think.

The player can win the pot to increase the money in the bankroll. In converse, when he loses in the game the money from the bankroll is transferred to the game pot. At the end of the game, the money which is in the bankroll is allowed to take along with the player. Event though the game is simpler, the game makes the player to play with fun and keeps them interesting with the nature of the play.

You aren’t really going to be able to tell if you are that good at the play money tables and people will always play bad as well as take chances they normally wouldn’t because it’s free money. Play some of the freeroll tournaments, there will be a lot less players that don’t care because there is a reward if a player finishes high enough. Also try to deposit some money even if it is just a little bit to play at the low stakes, players will take it a lot more seriously when money is on the line and you should get a better feeling on how good you are after many……many hands of poker.

Play money isn’t the same game as real money. You’ll never be able to judge your true skill on play money tables.

If you are genuinely interested in playing for real money then deposit a small amount of money into your favorite site. Just $25 or $50. Whatever you can afford out of your "fun" budget and assume you’ll never see that money again. Then start playing micro stakes and freerolls.

Unfortunately, at the freerolls you’ll encounter those same stupid "all-in" jerks that don’t care. Commonly, I’ll see 5 players at my table go all-in on the first hand. This eliminates 4 idiots and puts 1 idiot way ahead of the game with 5x the chips of everyone else. He can now afford to play like an idiot for an hour or 2 and bully the rest of the table. Eventually, he’ll get knocked out.

Micro-stakes are slightly better. When there is money on the line, people play much differently than they do for play money and the higher the stakes, the better your opponents will be. Start playing at a limit where you feel comfortable. If you do well, then consider moving up a limit. If you don’t then practice and learn until you’re better or just walk away from poker.

Just remember. You may be an excellent free money player and you may be good enough to clean house on the 25 cent/50 cent tables, but that doesn’t mean you’d survive long on the $100/$200 tables. Move up slowly and don’t risk the mortgage.

It’s very simple. If you can’t beat the play money tables, you are a bad player. PERIOD.
