I’m not gonna downgrade Antonius a little bit cause I think he’s one of the best high stakes poker player in the world and I like his style a lot… BUT, that play you mention has nothing of genious in it. The guy flopped trip 7, the 7T thing and JJ is highly unlikely, and if he had such a mega hand (actually JJ would be fullhouse), he would raise that much on the flop, he would have wait for his opponent to improve his hand. That wasn’t a genious call.

    Yup, agreed on the …
Yup, agreed on the diamond. I personally would have flat-called there hoping to elicit another bluff if a diamond hit.

The thought certainly crossed my mind that he may have been trying to let his friend off easy by blatantly telling him he had him beat by going all-in.

    The play was …
The play was neither bad nor genius. Simply standard. With ziggy’s table image at that point there isn’t any chance Patrik can throw trips away. So as he’s assuming he’s ahead he can either reraise or flatcall. Either play simply tells ziggy to shutdown on the turn unless a diamond hits and Patrik doesn’t give him the chance to bluff as he wants to push his advantage over a flush draw. The only thing he might do different is to tank longer before moving in so if Ziggy has AA,KK he might call.

I agree that it was …
I agree that it was a decent play, but fairly typical. If you can’t move all-in vs a tilting super aggressive opponent when you have a set, you probably shouldn’t be playing poker.

I just wouldn’t overstate the “genius” of the play. If his opponent was on the flush draw, he was still getting pot odds to call (notice how little is left in his stack at the end of the hand). , so I don’t think he was trying to chase him off that.

  10. schymi841 says:

    The only problem is …
The only problem is that you hardly ever know if you have the best hand. I know that you wouldnt even blink when someone bet $60k to you with that flop, but Patrick had to analyze a lot of hands that could beat him (for instance 7T). He figured out that Sahamies didnt have 7 (or JJ) and in case there was a flush draw, he moved all-in. That is poker my friend.

    Ummmm…dude, …
Ummmm…dude, getting your opponent to fold when you have the best hand is not “genius” by a long shot.

Patrick Antonius is the f-ing man!! What goes through this guy’s mind I have no idea, but that all-in bet was genius.

If by customer you mean fish, that he’s not, he’s just on uber tilt and trying to regain his losses. I did that once, blow through half my bankroll in one cash game. When you end up like that its best to take a break, and not play crazy poker cause that’s the best way to lose even more.
